Why Do Business School Preach Positive or Selling Presentations?

Picture a business conference... A business person is giving a presentation on a product of interest, new invention, new idea, or a popular concept to be incorporated with a product of service. As they are presenting they are spitting out every positive feature, benefit, and how it will succeed. (In other words this person is trying to market their product) They show how it will fit into the finances, the plan to implement it, and how everything will integrate etc. Then finally the sample of the product or service at work. (a show and tell if you will) At the end of the presentation a barrage of questions ensues mostly of a negative nature- How will this work when our company is only breaking even? Why would this be any different from what we've been doing in the last 124 years? This seems way too costly? This will never work you would have to change the entire companies culture for it to be accepted. Well being a great presenter that this business person is he counters every ques...

Shocking Points: Unless Your a Caveman, We are all enslaved to money

aaahhhh the end of the world as we know it! No not quite. Many will disagree and let me point some of these disagreements... 1.) Ichabod: My journey is to be happy in life not to be as rich as possible just to be comfy. 2.) Reginald: I follow Gods holy path into the light, monetary values and commodities mean nothing. I want to serve god and be a leader for god. 3.) Golem: What are you talking about? I just have a job and trying to live off of it. Money is important you know. 4.) Rich: Oh the American way is to be all you can be and have all you can have why not have wealth, prosperity. Oh and I do give 1% of my wealth back you know.... 5.) Cornelius: Money is what makes the world go round without it we're in complete chaos 6.) Captain Ahab: You idiot without money you can't pay for your home, health, food, insurance, and afford to take care of your family. 1.) To Ichabod- I like your attitude you just want to live what is a "middle class" life without no worr...

Holy Enlightened Path To Destruction

Everyone has there moments, faults, failures and humiliations. Everyone makes mistakes and everyone at a certain point have strings of bad luck. Well consider my career after college a narrow path of all the vocabulary that I have just mentioned. But I cannot help wondering back in either my sophomore or junior year did I take the right path its the blue wire or the red wire, its 31 on red or 12 on black, or its Las Vegas vs. Salt Lake City. I had ran into some religious friends (some of the best people I ever met). As I got to know them I found that they were deeply rooted in the teachings of Christianity. I was at a crossroads, didn't know what I believed in. My mind was too bogged up in the notion of having success, being all you can be, and finding the love of my life in college. So I let my mind wonder into the depths of Christianity. I honestly remember the story of apostle Paul (hope I have this right) the person who in the Bible persecuted the Christians and became a Chris...

C: When a Corporation or a Company Gets Too Big

So think of any company, product, shoes, brands etc. that you like who at first started off as a small company or a national company that's now global. Do you see any difference? How is there customer service? Products still desirable or the same? Biggest example is computers... Microsoft was a big hit when they came out with there windows software. Before... Apple and Google are big hits now and Microsoft is being seen as an evil empire. Why do so many people (not all) feel this way.. Microsoft got greedy it hiked up its prices exponentially to where people cannot afford to upgrade right away. Microsoft customer service is declining. Apple customer service is one of the best. For example, I needed to refund a song purchased on iTunes I wasn't really nice about in the email inquiry I sent them. Even when rude to Apple iTunes they gladly serviced me and refunded me that same day. I've dealt with Microsoft in similar but different situations and you either get charged...

PRE-POST Polls show that my friends or someone else (1) wants me to write about politics. Well your going to get it in a modified form. It's about the corporation... Before I write this this blog. I want to get your input on what I'm going to be writing. Weird Right, not really I want to see if I should be even writing this and if your even going to read it. Naw just kidding I really don't mind if you read it or not. This isn't for viewership this is a website that defines my character-love it or hate it. Anywho this blog will be about my view on the corporate culture. I'm going to hit on teamwork straight on. For people who know me... you will be surprised what my opinion on this is thats all I'm going to say. This article will basically point out the flaws in the way I view work and how it conflicts with the corporate retail way of life. This is not a BASHING corporate blog. I'm not here to talk down about any corporation. As someone quoted in a reta...

PERSONAL JOURNALS: Of Various Topics

Decided put my personal journals up here, they are journals that I have written mainly for a class. Might as well keep up with my blog. Though about deleting it... Overconfidence One class I took in college that I thought “This is going to be a cakewalk” was Sociology 101.  In fact I was so confident that I use to show up for that class 20 minutes late. Since I believed this was an easy class I thought that I wouldn’t have to come to class on time or read any of the chapters, basically I treated the course as a “backburner class” (Class that you can ignore). Well, the first test comes around and I get a D on it. Then that overconfidence of the class evaporated and I found myself saying, “I’ve got to make some kind of effort in this class”. So with more investment going into reading the book and paying attention to lectures I overcame the adversity of an overconfident investment and I ended up getting a B in my SOC101 class. To improve this overconfidence of classes I should inst...
